Night Owl® Blue Light Protection

Sleep is of the utmost importance when it comes to optimizing overall health and well-being. 

Ensuring you get adequate sleep helps to repair and restore internal organ systems within the body serving to protect a number of important bodily functions including:

  • Muscle recovery
  • Improving immunity systems
  • Hormone regulation
  • Maintaining optimal memory

These are just a few of the ways regular sleep can improve overall health. Unfortunately, many Americans do not get enough sleep on a nightly basis.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), about 35% of Americans do not get at least the daily recommended 7 hours of sleep per night. 

Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to several long-term health detriments including (1):

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Frequent mental distress

There’s a number of different ways we can improve our sleeping habits including: going to bed and waking at the same time daily, turning off all electronic devices, and even meditation might be able to help.

BUT for some people, they need something more to sleep better.

For some they may turn to prescription sleeping pills, but research has shown these types of drugs to be linked to early death. In a 2012 study, a 2.5 year study was conducted which found that patients were FOUR times more likely to die using prescription sleep aids AND were at a 35% increased risk of cancer (2).

Although I am a firm believer in modern medicine, I do think that there are viable alternatives—especially when it comes to sleeping.

That’s why I created Night Owl Blue Light Protection.

Hi, I’m Sean Torbati. When Ambrosia was created, we set out to create a solution based company to help unlock the absolute limits of the human body and mind. 

Since sleep is such as crucial element to overall health, we decided to create Night Owl Blue Light Protection.

Using a synergistic mix of ingredients we wanted to combat the negative effects of blue light has on the natural sleep cycle while also enhancing cognitive function.

Our unique blend of ingredients helps to formulate the ultimate all-natural combination supplement that serves to provide blue light defense and improve sleep.

Let’s take a look at how all of the ingredients come together to form one masterful product.

Magnesium

Magnesium has been shown to have a number of different health benefits. A recent study in 2018 looked at the effects of magnesium on sleep disorder symptoms. Data from 1487 adults over the age of 20 showed that dietary magnesium supplementation can provide long-term benefits by reducing the likelihood of daytime falling asleep (3).

Another study looked at 46 subjects who took 500mg of magnesium or a placebo over the course of 8 weeks. They found that the magnesium group improved all subjective measures of insomnia including sleep score, sleep efficiency, sleep time, early morning awakening, and lessened insomnia (4).

Of course the benefits of magnesium go beyond sleep aide abilities. It has also been shown to improve symptoms of depression. A study on 8894 adults found a significant association between low magnesium and depression (5). Depression can invariably hurt your sleep patterns, so magnesium can play a crucial role in improving your health.

Although magnesium can be found in the foods we eat, it’s important to ensure we are consume adequate amounts each day to optimize overall health.

L-Theanine

Another goal of Night Owl was to improve your cognitive abilities. That’s why we decided to add L-theanine into the mix. 

A study on L-theanine in 2013 pointed to it’s potential mental benefits. It found that cognitive performance, mood, blood pressure, and heart rate all improved after taking L-theanine (6).

A separate study from 2016 found that L-theanine improved cognitive abilities, immune function, and even reduced cardiovascular risk (7). 

L-theanine has also been shown to significantly increase activity in the alpha frequency band, meaning it can relax the mind without inducing drowsiness. Also known as alpha brain waves, L-theanine was shown to significantly increase mental alertness and arousal (8).

Another benefit of L-theanine is its ability to reduce stress. A 2016 study on thirty-four healthy adults found that cortisol responses to stressors were reduced three hours post-dosing (9).

Improving cognitive abilities and reducing stress can help you think better and sleep more efficiently.

Lutemax

Made from lutein, lutemax is often times known as “the eye vitamin.” Lutein can be used to prevent eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, and more.

A 2004 study double-blind, placebo-controlled trial performed on 90 patients found that lutein showed noticeably improved visual function (10).

Lutein can also significantly decrease the risks of cataracts. A 2008 study on 39,876 women found that dietary lutein and vitamin E decreased the relative risk of cataracts (11). 

Lutein qualifies as a powerful antioxidant that is supported by favorable effects on eye health.
