TRU Creatine - Increase Strength, Performance, and Recovery

Supplements can provide the additional boost needed to take your performance and athletic abilities to the next level. While it’s no secret diet and exercise have the most influential impact on strength, muscle mass, and aesthetics—the right supplements can give you the extra edge needed to put you ahead.

Of all the potential supplements available in the marketplace, there is one that stands apart from the rest. As one of the most clinically researched supplements of all-time, it has been proven to increase strength, improve endurance, and decrease muscle lactic acid accumulation.

Just what supplement am I talking about?

If you guessed creatine you’d be correct. With it’s massive database of research creatine has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt to improve performance AND even enhance several aspects of overall health. Hi, I’m Sean Torbati. Although I consider myself an innovator in the supplement field I also believe in sticking to what works. Creatine may not be new to the world of sports nutrition, but it’s staying power speaks volumes to its efficacy and health improvement abilities.

Many believe creatine is a product geared strictly towards bodybuilders and extreme athletes. While there’s no doubt these groups receive substantial benefits from the substance, it’s important to note that people from all demographics can experience it’s positive attributes—whether they’re a world class Olympian or just an everyday person looking to improve their health.

In this article, we’ll take a stronger look into what creatine is, how it works, and the research behind it.

What is Creatine?

If you’ve ever taken creatine you’re probably aware of it’s texture and powder-like consistency. What may be a surprise is the fact that creatine occurs naturally within the body.

Creatine works by increasing phosphocreatine stores to help produce more ATP as a key energy source for strength training and high-intensity cardiovascular training (1). Many people refer to ATP as the body’s energy currency due to that fact that it helps to improve performance during exercise (2).

At a cellular level, creatine improves health and overall performance in numerous ways.

Benefits of Creatine

Whether you’re doing sprints at the beach, lifting at the gym, or simply sitting down at the office—creatine can improve your performance through various mechanisms.

Building Muscle

Many bodybuilders and powerlifters take creatine daily in order to help boost muscle growth. This occurs through a number of different ways including:

  • Longer training sessions: Fatigue slows people down during workouts. Taking creatine helps increase stamina allowing for greater volume during training sessions. Over time, more volume can increase muscle growth and strength. A six-week trial of 5g of creatine lead to increases in arm strength, muscle area, and fat-free mass compared to control groups (3).
  • Cellular signalling: Creatine supplementation combined with increased functional load results in heightened satellite cell mitotic activity (4).
  • IGF-1 activation: Increases in lean body mass were reported in various studies due to signalling pathways involving IGF-1 (5).
  • Reduced muscle breakdown: One study noted creatine monohydrate may have anti catabolic actions in proteins (6). This means a reduced protein breakdown and more muscle mass compared to control groups.

Increased Strength

Several studies have pointed to creatine’s ability to increase strength and muscle mass. A double blind study gave individuals either 5g of creatine or a placebo group. The results showed creatine supplementation resulted in increases of fat-free mass and total body mass compared to placebo groups. Furthermore, strength increases were noted in various leg exercises (7).

A review of 22 separate studies found that increases in muscle strength following creatine supplementation plus resistance training was 8% greater than placebo groups (8). Bench press 1RM also increased significantly compared to the placebo group.

Enhanced Performance

It’s not just bodybuilders and powerlifters who can benefit from creatine supplementation. Performance athletes can also enjoy the advantages of creatine use.

In a study on advanced athletes, a four week regimen of creatine resulted in a 15% increase in bike-sprinting performances (9). Creatine helps to increase ATP production thereby extending your ability to perform longer bouts of exercise.

Other Health Benefits

Most people are aware of creatine’s ability to enhance physical performance. Few are aware of it’s other health enhancement abilities.

A number of disorders have been treated with creatine use including (10):

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Epilepsy
  • Stroke
  • Neurological diseases and more

Memory tests have shown that creatine can benefit those suffering from cognitive decline. One study used a 5g daily supplementation of creatine over a six-week period. The results showed a positive correlation to improving working memory, intelligence, and overall brain processing speed (11).

Numerous research trials have pointed to the effectiveness of creatine as it relates to muscular development, strength enhancement, and cognitive improvement.
